lily & marc

I hope everyone's 4th was great. I personally spent the day packing all my personal belongings and watching an Alfred Hitchcock marathon on tv. No complaints! I'm getting close to the end of my time here if Florida, so I had to make sure and go to my favorite hairdresser of all time before I leave. When I got home, I opened Jezebel to see that my girl Lily got the same 'do on the same day.

I promise I'm not just a creepy fangirl, I've been debating bangs-or-not for quite a while now. I like it, and now that straight-irons exist, I'm sure my bangs won't be the disaster they were in 7th grade when I had huge, thick bangs that curled up in the humidity on my way to the bus stop and never, ever looked good. Seriously- the day I got my first CHI iron, my life was changed.

And, earlier, I stumbled upon a huge sale during my last pilgrimage to the Neiman Marcus outlet. If only I wasn't trying to pinch every penny, I would have gone crazy. I scooped one Marc by Marc sweater for $43, and tried on a fabulous dress. I thought it was fate- 100% silk with lace arms/yoke, with a small bowtie at the neck. It was a size 2, which I'm really not, but I had to try it on since it was only $76. It totally fit! I was going to justify it but I just didn't like how the skirt hung from the bodice. The seaming was a little lumpy. Even though it was a great deal and quite beautiful, fit is the most important thing, and I wouldn't wear it much.

the dress that almost was.

I will sure miss the abundance of outlet shopping here!

back to fashion, for now

Well, the test is over, thank you to everyone who gave me good wishes! I definitely needed every last one, but alas I don't know if the good feelings were enough to save my sorry, mushy brain. More than 5 hours of mind-numbing testing, and it was such a blur that I don't really know how well I did. I think I totally bombed one section, but maybe made up for it in the other 5? We'll see...I need to know if I should be aiming for the likes of George Washington/Wash.U or more along the lines of SUNY Buffalo/U. of Utah! haha...no offense to any school, I will be happy if I get in anywhere.

SO, being the vain little person I am, felt deserving of a reward just for completing the test. I went to Neiman's Last Call in hopes of finding some new skinny jeans. It was very slim pickings, but I did find some beautiful Vince velvet skinny pants for $60.

They fit like a glove, and will be pretty festive if I dress them up, but I think they can work for everyday wear too.

I tried them on with this top, and it looked awesome, but the top was still $78 and I just couldn't justify that. But let me know if it goes on sale at shopbop, mmmmk?

Ok, it's been awhile so I need to jump back in and catch up with all the wonderful blogs out there, and get a move on my holiday shopping....and with all the crazy traffic around the malls here, I think I will be staying exclusively online!

outlet mall: no longer for those looking for deals.

Lately, when I think of outlet malls, I think of tourists, cheap crap, and Rue 21 (why does that store pop up at every outlet mall from here to Vegas?) The outlet malls here are especially frustrating because they are littered with NON-OUTLET stores. What's the point? Last time I ventured to an outlet mall, I saw regular Aeropostale, regular Eddie Bauer, and other dull (yet non-outlet!) stores.
Well the kind folks over at Neiman Marcus have turned my world upside-down and opened a Neiman Marcus Last Call in the outskirts of a particularly crappy outlet mall. It is gorrrrrr-jussss! I tried on Prada platforms for the first time in my life. They are still around $250, but unlike full-priced Prada, I could actually buy these someday (maybe). I also tried on YSL, Marc Jacobs and Loeffler Randall shoes (so fun!). They had a great selection of clothing from all the brands I always drool over but never actually buy (yet). Theory, Marc by Marc, 3.1 Philip Lim, Vena Cava, Rachel Pally, and more- all from past seasons, but all on heavy discount. I will definitely be back once my financial reserves are-a-flowin' just a little bit more.
